Tom Lodge, a former politics profes sor at South Africa’s University of the Witwatersrand, has written a biography of South Africa’s first democratically-elected president, Nelson Mandela, that follows three earlier biographies by Fatima Meer, Anthony Sampson, and Martin Meredith.
