Résumé
Cet article analyse l’acculturation des mineurs migrants du Botswana qui ont travaillé dans les mines sud-africaines entre 1930 et 1980. Il montre comment le système minier de concession a affecté les pratiques culturelles Botswana. L’étude affirme que certains Botswanais ont fini par vivre de façon permanente en Afrique du Sud, et ont adopté les langues et les pratiques culturelles des Sud-Africains. Ils sont ainsi connus au Botswana comme les Makgweelwa..Cependant, l’article révèle que les Botswanais ont pourtant maintenu le contact avec leurs familles et leurs proches chez eux, et qu’une acculturation complète n’a pas réellement eu lieu. Il soutient que les Botswanais dans les mines d’Afrique du Sud ont conservé leur langue et pratiques culturelles, et qu’aucune langue dominante n’existait dans les concessions. Le système de concession a également aidé à réduire l’acculturation en ce s ns que les hommes étaient logés séparément selon leurs origines ethniques.
