Abstract

Implementing an intercultural approach while learning French.
The situation of French teaching/learning in the current Malagasy education system is characte- rized
by the persistence of inequalities between students from the urban classes and those from
disadvantaged socio-cultural backgrounds. It is at the beginning of the school year that this
difference is palpable. At the University of Toamasina, notably at the Faculty of Humanities, French
leveling courses are required. But the framework of this program shows that the vast majority of
students from disadvantaged backgrounds suffer from a lack of skills to be able to learn French. The
purpose of this article is to present an experimentation with a teaching tech- nique focused mainly
on the implementation of an intercultural approach.
