6 - The History of Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) and her Place in the Study of the Social Sciences in Africa

Résumé
Pour emboiter le pas en matière de recherche à l’Institut Rhodes-Livingstone qui a vu le jour en 1937, trois nouveaux instituts de recherche ont été créés dans l’empire britannique. Il s’agit de l’Institut Est-africain de recherche en sciences sociales (plus tard rebaptisé l’Institut de Recherche en Sciences Sociales de l’Université Makerere [MISR]); L’Institut ouest-africain de recherche en sciences sociales (WAISER) et de l’Institut des Antilles pour la recherche en sciences sociales (WIISR). Cette expansion de la production de la connaissance a sa propre logique et sa propre histoire et contribue à l’approfondissement des études en sciences sociales, en particulier l’anthropologie. Au fil des ans, l’Institut Makerere a continué à entretenir un début de relations avec l’Université Makerere avec laquelle il vit une histoire commune depuis 1948. Nous essayons de placer l’institut au cœur d’une histoire :unehistoiredeproductiondeconnaissancesensciencessociales ; l’histoire d’un institut local en quête d’indigénéité et d’espace.
