8 - Male Violence against Women in Botswana: A Discussion of Gendered Uncertainties in a Rapidly Changing Environment

Résumé
La violence masculine contre les femmes est devenue monnaie courante dans le Botswana contemporain. Les analyses de la violence sexiste au Botswana indiquent que les hommes manifestent leur domination par des actes de violence. Cette domination est créée et renforcée par des croyances et des pratiques patriarcales. Les discussions sont caractérisées par les notions de victimisation féminine et de domination masculine universelle. Cet article contextualise la violence masculine contre les femmes en examinant le rôle joué par le changement économique et social dans la formation des identités et des relations de genre. Si l'on montre que la dominance des hommes blancs contemporains a résulté de leur accès privilégié au fil du temps à des ressources telles que les salaires et la propriété, les hommes sont également confrontés à des incertitudes liées au chômage et à un statut social réduit. l montrent également que plutôt que d'assumer le rôle de victimes passives, les femmes ont développé, et continuent de développer, des stratégies de survie contradictoires telles que la cohabitation et les relations sexuelles qui non seulement renforcent les notions de domination masculine mais parfois aussi remettent en cause les relations de pouvoir et font de certains hommes des victimes. .
